I’ve known I wanted to be an author since I was 11 years old. In 5th grade, my teacher (who also instilled in me a life-long love of fantasy via a bookshelf stocked with Redwall books, The Dark is Rising sequence, and A Wizard of Earthsea, to name a few) gave us an assignment to write a fictional story, about anything we wanted. For most of the class, this was accomplished in about a page or two; meanwhile, my story ballooned into 20+ handwritten pages, featuring a sentient pocket-watch named Ticker who tries to take over the world using mind-controlled ant hives.
Say one thing for 11 year old me, that kid had a hell of an imagination.
In the intervening couple of decades since that awakening, a lot has changed in my life – interests, hobbies, demands on my time… But one thing above all else has stayed with me: I still simply love to write. My approach to the craft has changed a lot too since “Rise of the Watches” (thankfully!) I’ve learned from every step and stumble along the way – and while I’m proud of the author I’ve grown into, I know a part of me is still that 11 year old kid, eager to see where the next path will lead, and what can be learned along the way.
I’m happy to have you along with me for the next stage of the journey, I think you’re going to enjoy our travels together. So lace up your boots, tighten your belt, and collect your rucksack and walking stick – adventure lies ahead, come find it with me!
